Navy Seal Workout: Last month (November) wrapped up my Mt. Bike season and now that the snow is on the ground and my bike is cleaned and stored for the winter I thought I would change up my exercise routine for the month of December. So, I started reading a book a few weeks ago called Training With a Navy Seal. Simply put the book inspired me to push myself physically further than I ever have. I am up to 6.5 miles running (at 8:15 min/miles) and 400 push-ups in a day. My goal for the month is to get to 7:30 min/miles for 6 miles and 1000 push-ups in a day. The biggest thing I am learning in all this (and I’ll be doing a more extensive blog about this in the weeks ahead) is that we typical only go to 40% of our abilities and then we quiet. We can do so much more but we mentally check out when things get tough. We can always do ONE MORE!
Sleeping Giant: I am currently teaching a Men’s Bible Study on Tuesday mornings. The resource that I am using is called Sleeping Giant by Kenny Luck. I made a mistake in using it as a Men’s Bible Study because it is more of a training resource than a Bible Study; but the men have really enjoyed the process and they are learning a lot from it. My take-away from the study has been that I need to continue to create Men’s Studies that inspire them and meet their needs in life. Again, more to come on this topic in the weeks ahead in a future Blog post.
Netflicks / Rockford Files: I usually go to the gym/YMCA for my daily workouts; however, on Thursdays I stay home and do chores and workout on the elliptical. During my 40-50 min. workout I like to watch an episode of a program on Netflicks – this helps the time go by and can be really entertaining if I find a good show. Insert Rockford Files from the late 1970s, it is my new “go to” show for my workouts or even late night “unwind” viewing. As a kid a remember seeing the show but never really watching it. Now, I enjoy watching the show to see what things were like back in the 70’s with the lack of technology. Check it out if you like crime shows with humor and let me know what you think.
Rouge One: I cannot say much about this yet because I won’t see it till tonight but I am really looking forward to watching it with my daughter and a few of her friends. Just like the release of last year’s Star Wars movie this episode is selling out fast; I had to get tickets for this one a few weeks ago to ensure we would have seats together. I have heard a lot of good buzz about the movie and will share more after the show.
Away In A Manger: This past week I prepared a lesson on the Christmas Carol, Away In A Manger. The lesson is based of a series of messages that Life Church created years ago. The basis for the lesson is for us to recognize that Jesus IS Lord and we don’t make Him Lord of our life we actually submit to Him being Lord of our life.
Consider the following verses:
Luke 2:9-12 (NLT)
Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.”
Luke 6:46 (NLT)
“So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?
Romans 14:7-9 (NLT)
For we don’t live for ourselves or die for ourselves. If we live, it’s to honor the Lord. And if we die, it’s to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. Christ died and rose again for this very purpose—to be Lord both of the living and of the dead.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
So the question is, do we really believe and live like Jesus is LORD of our life? Is He the LORD of our Money, our Children, our relationships and friendships, our career and education decisions, our addictions, bad habits, attitude, forgiveness of others and so on… Is JESUS THE LORD OF YOUR LIFE?
Have a great weekend and let me know what you think of Rockford Files.
