So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.
As I mentioned on my blog from Wednesday, I want to become a wiser person this year. However, becoming wiser requires a person to make choices (sometimes tough choices). If you get a chance or have the time, head over to Tracicast’s blog and read what wise choices she is making this year; here’s the link: Tracicast Blog Post
There is so much grabbing our attention and so many things we can do to “pass the time”. And that’s just it, I need to work on how I “pass the time”. Those few minutes a day I take to sit back and relax, to unwind, to reflect on the day, to recover. Dr. John Townsend has some wisdom to share when it comes to our approach to recovering from a busy day:
When you recover and rest from a busy day, make sure you do it in a way that truly gets you ready for tomorrow, refreshed and interested.. There are two kinds of recovery, I call them “active recovery” and “passive recovery.” Passive is when you watch tv, surf the web, read a book. Do a little of that. Active is when you take a walk, talk about your day with someone, work on a fun hobby, or go to the gym. Do more of that. When it’s all passive recovery, it means you are too drained at work and you may need to set some better limits. More active and a bit of passive will recharge your batteries.Dr. John Townsend
So here’s the deal; I want to become a wiser person in 2014. To do so means I have to give something up. If I want to learn more then I have to cut out the things in my life that our wasting time. Nobody has an extra hour in their day – or do they?
Over the past month I got hooked on a stupid game called “Westbound”; think of it as “Farmville” 2014. I spent time on it daily developing my “Town” and it was a lot of fun for me every time I opened up one of those little treasure chests. However, at the end of the day I had to make a choice, “Do I really want to have more wisdom in 2014?” If yes, then I have to give something up, and I choose time-wasting games. And to replace the time I spent on the game I will read more (read for my own growth or read books to my kids).
What do you want to achieve in 2014? I like how John Maxwell says it; “If you want to go up you got to give up.” Or, if you want to go up to the next level you have to give up something you know is holding you back.
