Finding a friend who will be a truth teller to you personally is priceless. All day we have plenty of people who will tell us what we want to hear; but how often do we ALLOW someone to tell us what we NEED to hear? Do you trust your close friends enough that they can tell you the truth because you KNOW they are “for you” and “for” your personal development?
Truth Telling is a Two-way Street.
First, we need to be open to the truth that our friends share with us; knowing deep down inside that we want and trust their input.
Second, we have the personal courage to be truth tellers for our friends because we love them deeply and want the best for them.
Truth Telling is About Our Own Character.
If you struggle with telling others the truth (tactfully) out of fear of rejection, loss of friendship or retaliation; then that goes back to your own character development. Also, if you fear the truth that our friends need to share with us, then that speak to the immaturity of your character. Character and Truth-telling go together. Everyone who has a mature internal character has the ability to accept truth and give truth.
