The reality is that we live in a broken world. Just last week we heard of a mom in our community who not only took her own life, but she also murdered her two children (ages 6 and 3) along with her husband. At this point of the investigation it is unclear the motive, why did she do it. Nevertheless, one thing is clear; this mother needed help and she didn’t know what to do. In her mind, her best option was a murder/suicide to end whatever life struggle she was going through. When I contrast the pain of the news-story to the truth and grace of God’s word in today’s Bible verse it touches my heart.
Galatians 1:4 (NLT)
Jesus gave his life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live.
There is freedom from the brokenness around us – It is in Jesus Christ. He died for our sins and He heals us at the heart level. I am saddened that the mom in the story above couldn’t reach out to anyone for help. For whatever reason, she didn’t reach out for help. To commit suicide she probably felt helpless and hopeless; that is a very low place to be. Where are you at mentally and emotionally today/this week? Are you at a low point? Do you feel suffocated by the brokenness of the world around us? Please reach out to Jesus, He gave His life so that you can have life. We live in a broken world but there is HOPE in our savior – Jesus Christ.
