How Friendship Can Fuel Your Growth:
My most significant step of faith happened four years ago when I retired as a pastor and launched my coaching business. Having no guaranteed income was scary.
I remember waking up every morning the first year and praying the Lord’s Prayer and the 23rd Psalm before getting out of bed. (And I still pray those prayers regularly).
“Give me today, daily bread.” It has incredible meaning now.
Starting a business as a young dad has grown my faith in God, and it has confirmed my need for quality friendships.
I wouldn’t be an Executive Coach today (four years later) without the wisdom and support of my friends. In fact, without my friends, I would have launched the coaching practice, and it would have fizzled out within the first two years.
My quality friendships gave me the fuel to get past the first two years.
Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
To become the best version of yourself read how friendship can fuel that growth.
How Quality Friendships Can Fuel Your Growth:
Surrounding myself with quality friends did not pay my bills.
It’s bigger than that.
My friends went to God on my behalf.
They believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself.
My friends helped to stay focused on the goal.
They were a sounding board for my thoughts and ideas.
What to Look for in a Quality Friendship:
Friendships are powerful and essential for our life. As you start to develop friendships, look for acquaintances that live these qualities:
- Honesty and Integrity
- Strengths in areas of your weaknesses
- Humility and teachability (you don’t need “know-it-alls” in your life)
- Wisdom
- Supportive in your spiritual growth and steps of faith
- They can give you honest feedback in a tactfully/graciously
- They can receive feedback graciously (and even ask for it)
