How Do Leaders Lead Themselves?
“People like us do things like this.” Seth Godin
“I will do today what I can do today to enable me to do tomorrow what I cannot do today.” Craig Groeschel
Successful leaders can lead themselves. They create a plan, typically a mission statement, vision statement, and a list of core values. The core values (I’m referring to personal core values, not at a corporate level) become a set of rules that govern their life. I love the quote above from Seth Godin because a leader can identify with the type of leader they want to be and then start doing the things that a leader like that, would do.
The Beginning of my Coaching Business..
When I launched my coaching business in 2018, I had no clients. However, I came to the office every business day at 7 am. I put in a full day’s work. My wife asked me why I was coming to the office when I had no clients. My response was, “I have things to do, and I am working ON the business. I’m creating plans and systems for coaching my future clients. I’m reading and learning daily about becoming a better life coach.” I was coaching myself.
Leaders can lead themselves before they lead others.
Skills to Learn As a Leader
Reflect. Each day, take a moment to reflect on how well you accomplished your daily tasks and how well you interacted with those you lead and serve.
Create a Plan. Every org needs a clear mission, vision, and core values statement, and so do you.
Retain an Expert. Start working with a life coach to help you work through the blind spots in your life.
