This morning in my devotions I came across a verse in Ecclesiastes that really caught my attention:
Ecclesiastes 11:9 (NLT) – Young people, it’s wonderful to be young! Enjoy every minute of it. Do everything you want to do; take it all in. But remember that you must give an account to God for everything you do.
The author, Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived gives us (specifically young people) some good advice. Have some serious fun! Enjoy life, take it all in!
BUT
There is always the big BUT isn’t there? Solomon warns us; have fun BUT realize that everything you do in life you will be held accountable for. The New Testament has a similar teaching in 1 Corinthians (written by Paul)…
1 Corinthians 6:12 (NLT) – You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.
So, we have the freedom to do anything we want, to have fun, to enjoy life – God wants us to do that. Yet, we need to take the freedom to do anything with wisdom and choose things that will not destroy our character, testimony, or life.
