I know that God is Love and that He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for my sin (For God So Loved that World… John 3:16). But have you ever wondered about what God hates? I’m sure if we sat down and thought about it some we could come up with a good list of things that God hates. The good news is we don’t have to – He already gave us a list in Proverbs chapter 6.
Proverbs 6:16-19 (NLT)
There are six things the LORD hates— no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.
Now, after reading the list you might be thinking the same thing I have thought about as it relates to this passage; “Is it six things He hates or is it seven?” Well, it is in fact six things that He hates but there are seven things listed. One of the six is actually repeated; “a lying tongue” and “a false witness” are both the same – the lies of a person. God hates it when we lie, and I guess He hates it 2x as much as the other things that are listed. After reading this passage from Proverbs it would be a good idea to ask God where we stand on these things that are listed; “God, do I have any of these traits in my life? Reveal them to me so that I might confess them and grow.” If you find that you do have any of these traits in your life then it’s time to claim another promise from God: If we confess our sin He is FAITHFUL and JUST to forgive us of our sin and to cleanse us.
God, thank you for forgiving me of my sin and cleansing me. Help me to become the person of character you are calling me to be. I pray this in Jesus Name, AMEN
