Several years ago I received two stinging comments from people that helped to shape my current identity. One comment was from a friend who had to give me some hard truth that I needed to hear and the other comment was from an individual (not a friend) who was not “for me” or for my personal growth. Both comments strung, one more than the other, and both pushed me to dig deeper into understanding who Terry Porter is.
Mark 1:16-18 (NASB) As He (Jesus) was going along by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen. 17And Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”18Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.
When I was nineteen, Jesus called me to follow Him and discover who HE created me to be. It’s been a journey of several decades filled with success and failures. Yet, today I can say with more confidence than ever that I know who Terry Porter is and what Jesus Christ has called me to do with my life.
