Who Is Jesus to You?
Who is Jesus to you?
That may be one of the most important questions a person can answer.
Many people know facts about Jesus. They know He was born in Bethlehem. They know He taught with authority. They know He died on the cross and rose again. But there is a difference between knowing about Jesus and learning to live in relationship with Jesus.
So it is worth asking:
What role does Jesus play in your life?
Does He influence your decisions?
Do you pray to Him?
Do you listen for His direction?
Do you look to Him for strength, peace, and purpose?
The New Testament has much to say about the person of Jesus and the role He is meant to have in our lives.
Jesus Is With Us
Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He gave His followers a mission and a promise. He told them to go and make disciples, and then He said, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” — Matthew 28:20, NLT.
That promise is not small.
Jesus does not simply give us commands from a distance. He is present with His people. He walks with us in obedience, suffering, uncertainty, and growth.
There are many moments in life when we feel alone, overwhelmed, or unsure of what to do next. But Jesus reminds us that we are not abandoned. He is with us.
Jesus Lives in Us
Paul writes in Ephesians 3:17 that Christ makes His home in our hearts as we trust in Him.
That means the Christian life is not just about trying harder. It is about Christ living in us and shaping us from the inside out.
Real growth begins on the inside. Our thoughts, desires, attitudes, fears, and motivations all matter because they shape the way we live. Jesus does not merely want to improve our behavior. He wants to transform our hearts.
Jesus Helps Us Become Fruitful
In John 15, Jesus describes Himself as the vine and His followers as the branches. A branch cannot produce fruit if it is disconnected from the vine.
Jesus says, “Apart from me you can do nothing” — John 15:5, NLT.
That is a humbling statement.
We often try to build a good life starting with ourselves. We rely on our own wisdom, strength, plans, and effort. Then we become frustrated when life does not work the way we hoped.
Jesus invites us into a different way of living. He calls us to remain in Him. Fruitfulness comes from connection.
Jesus Gives Us Power in Weakness
Most of us do not like weakness. We want to feel strong, capable, prepared, and in control.
But Jesus works in a surprising way. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, He tells Paul, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”
This means weakness is not the end of the story. It can become the very place where we learn to depend on Christ.
When we stop pretending, stop hiding, and stop trying to prove ourselves, we become more open to the grace and power Jesus offers.
Jesus Gives Us Peace
Colossians 3:15 says to let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts.
That is a powerful picture. Peace is not just something we occasionally feel. It is something that can rule, guide, and steady us.
The peace Jesus gives does not mean life is always easy. It means we can be grounded even when life is difficult.
We can bring our anxiety, fear, anger, disappointment, and confusion to Him. Jesus is not intimidated by our inner world. He brings peace into the places where we are unsettled.
Jesus Wants Relationship With Us
Following Jesus is not merely a religious activity. It is a relationship.
Colossians 2:6–7 tells us to continue following Christ, letting our roots grow down into Him and our lives be built on Him.
That kind of language is deeply relational. Roots grow slowly. Foundations are built intentionally. Relationships deepen over time.
Jesus invites us to walk with Him daily, not just turn to Him when life falls apart.
Jesus Is Our Model
Philippians 2 tells us to have the same attitude as Christ Jesus. That attitude is marked by humility, love, service, and concern for others.
Jesus does not simply tell us how to live. He shows us.
He shows us how to love.
He shows us how to serve.
He shows us how to forgive.
He shows us how to obey the Father.
He shows us how to live with courage and humility.
If we want to become healthier, wiser, and more whole, we must keep looking at Jesus.
So, Who Is Jesus to You?
I have followed Christ for many years. I know a lot about Him. I know what He offers. I know He offers power, peace, relationship, purpose, wisdom, and a better way to live.
But if I am honest, I do not always take full advantage of the life He offers.
Too often, I still start with me.
My plans.
My timing.
My frustration.
My impatience.
My desire to control the outcome.
Then I wonder why I feel anxious, tired, or disconnected.
So my next step is simple.
I want to wake up and ask, “Jesus, what do You have for me today?”
I want to learn more about who He is.
I want to pay attention to what He is doing in the world.
I want to walk as He walked — with humility, love, courage, and surrender.
A Simple Challenge
Take a few minutes today and ask yourself:
Who is Jesus to me right now?
What role is He actually playing in my daily life?
Where do I need His peace?
Where do I need His power?
Where do I need to follow His example?
What would it look like to walk with Him more intentionally this week?
Jesus does not invite us into a shallow life. He invites us into a transformed life.
And that transformation begins as we learn to trust Him, follow Him, and build our lives on Him.
