I know not everyone is like me, A Morning Person. For whatever reason, God made me a morning person and I typically cannot wait to get out of bed and start the day (even on Saturdays). Now, if you follow the three steps I have for you today, I cannot guarantee that you will become a morning person, but I do believe you will be happier as a result of these exercises.
3 HABITS For MORNING Happiness
FIRST: Prayer and Breathing
Psalm 23:1-3 (NASB) – The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. 2He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. 3He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
Before your feet even hit the floor, while your head is still on your pillow. Take four or five deep breaths and mentally recite the 23rd Psalm. Think through the words of the Psalm and the implications for your day ahead. Realize that God is the source of your life and He will provide for your every need. Now breathe in and out a few more times.
SECOND: Journal
Psalm 63:3-4 (NASB) – Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips will praise You. 4So I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.
Make a habit of keeping a journal. You don’t have to write a lot but write something and you can start by writing about the good things that God does in your life daily. Journal these thoughts back to God as a prayer (that’s what David did in the Psalms). This is what I require all of my clients to do as well and they learn to like it and see the benefit of it. So, if you want to increase your morning happiness; journal a positive thought and prayer.
THIRD: Eat Problems for Breakfast
Psalm 143:8-9 (NASB) – Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning; For I trust in You; Teach me the way in which I should walk; For to You I lift up my soul. 9Deliver me, O LORD, from my enemies; I take refuge in You.
Yeah, I know, This one doesn’t seem like it will bring happiness; but hear me out. You already know you have to have that tough conversation so just go ahead and take care of it right away (after your prayer, after the morning coffee, and after more prayer). But go ahead and do it. If you don’t take care of the tough things first then your entire day will be trashed as you become anxious about the issue. So go ahead and take care of it. You will be HAPPY you did!
